The Martian Boys!

If you read all of the facts about the guys in the band you'll realise that we don't take ourselves too seriously, but music ... yeah, music is another thing. We choose our songs with the utmost care and re-work them (where necessary) to give them the Martian Signals sound. You won't come to one of our gigs and hear songs that are worn out and overplayed, what you will hear are songs that you've always had in the back off your mind but have probably never heard live before. We pride ourselves on the mix of our set which ranges from the late 60's up to today. Rock is our business with all of it's beautiful subtleties.

Gaddebaum 8.9.12

We had a great night last night courtesy of the the Freibad in Gadderbaum, big thanks go to my old friend Christina Osei for organising the gig and also to the many people in the Freibad organization for making the night run so well. Big, big thanks also go to Jasper Kelm for filming the event. Watch this space for the first video clips of the evening.

NEXT GIG !

We'd love to see you there!

Bombsite Boadiceas

At long last Martyn and Lars have started to write some original songs for the band, here is the first song that we are previewing. It's called Bombsite Boadiceas and was inspired by an exhibition of pictures taken by Ken Russell (film director) of 1950's Teddy Girls in London. The song was recorded live at our rehearsal studio on January 12th this year. We hope that you like it.

The Mix Tapes

Constant demand for more muzak from the Martian boys has got our Lars cutting and splicing loads of songs together into one groovy mix to give you a good idea of what you can expect at one of our gigs...take 9 minutes out of your day and let us rock your cares away! (pure poetry LOL).

The Hörste Gig

A BIG THANKS to everyone who attended our gig in Hörste on Saturday 8th October. The night was a great success and had super vibes thanks to YOU! We promise to organise another event possibly next spring and next time we'll have enough songs for a third encore! You can see pictures from the night in the slideshow on the right (click on a picture to see a larger slideshow). Also there were reviews in both the Halle Westfalenblatt and Halle Kreisblatt (see above).

Special thanks go to all our helpers, Katrin, Astrid W, Astrid C, Annalena, Elise, Marthe, Lotte and finally Yoshi for taking the great photos and Thorsten Budde for lights and heating!

Martian Signals - SAMPLER CD #01

Markus

Facts: Markus plays Paul Reed Smith Santana and Lakewood D18 guitars through a
Line 6 Spider Valve Mk II HD100 amplifier and Mesa Boogie 2x12 cabinet...ouch!
He has a scary collection of shirts and jumpers and specialises in the we don't have a mirror at home look. In his spare time he's a bit of an egghead as he is a Maths and Physics teacher in a secondary school where he also teaches guitar. It's good having Markus in the band because whenever something is buzzing or feeding back we immediately know who's causing it!

Mart

Facts: Martyn, who claims himself a Rock & Roll shouter (although he can actually sing better than the rest of us) is the real pro in our band. A member of a nearly endless number of bands as singer, keyboarder, saxophonist or sometimes all of them at the same time. Despite trying really, really hard, the commercial breakthrough that he strived for over the years didn't happen (so far...) and prevented him from living the Rock & Roll lifestyle in full (but goddamnit he tried!). You will hardly find anyone who loves music more than he does: rock, blues, jazz, country, funk, soul, every style will touch his heart as long as it is played with soul and groove. He's also a real musical encyclopedia and you should be careful what you ask him i.e. about who was the percussionist in an obscure Portuguese art rock band of the seventies, as you could get the whole story of modern music instead.
On stage or during rehearsal, he's always on eleven and with the hand that shook Chick Corea's hand he hits the strings of his Hohner Prinz Telecaster as hard as he can. As an Englishman in Ostwestfalen he has to earn his living as a graphic designer - as long as his record sales don't grow more than the three hundred copies that Japanese (girls?) bought of his last release.

Gear: Martyn uses a Peavey 212 Stereo Chorus Combo (possibly the heaviest 2x12 Combo ever manufactured!) and Heil PR35 microphone.

Stefan

Facts: Stefan plays Sonor drums in a nice dust colour! He is the bands man of mystery, behind his quiet facade is someone who always wanted to be a musician but finished up as a drummer. This is not actually fair as Stefan not only reads books but drum music as well (you can count these guys on the fingers of one hand!). When not producing the Big Bang for the Martians he's a man in a white coat inventing things in a physics laboratory and knows why lasers can kill people in the hands of an expert!

Andreas

Facts: Andreas is our  Keymaster and is endorsed by Korg, he plays a Korg M3 synth and Korg BX3 organ, which means he has to handle 210 keys and a countless number of buttons, sliders and drawbars, which sometimes gives us the chance for a small break between songs. He loves to play jazz and improvise, always looking for his own interpretation and the "martian" sound for the songs. As an engineer for electronics he is able to solder a whole PA system by himself and always urges us to pro-tech solutions (which we can't afford). He has also developed his own krytographic method which he uses to hide the sense of all his leadsheets and notes that no one can understand, and if that isn't enough he also plays drums and alto saxophone.
 A true multi-tasker!

Lars

Facts: Lars is a multi-talented musician, not only is he the bands bass player and tech wizard but he also plays a pretty mean guitar and keyboard as well. He really knows which cable goes where and why and if you've got an hour to spare will gladly explain why an E flat bendix spring always sounds better than a rim doodler if you lift your left leg off the floor a bit and push the 10 KHz a tad?! Outside of the band Lars is a psychiatrist in a big local hospital....crazy man! He also likes to go paragliding which is a pretty scary hobby for someone who has the eyesite of a mole (or perhaps this makes it less scary at 5000 feet!).
He plays an Ibanez SR505 5 string bass through a MarkBass amplifier and Gallien Krueger 115RBX-II and GK 210MBE cabinets. This man is seriously organised!
